My core expertise is in the design, conduct, interpretation and application of epidemiological and applied health services research, including observational studies and randomised trials of clinical and complex (behavioural) interventions. I have been Principal Investigator on key randomised trials of sexual health interventions and received an NIHR Senior Investigator award in 2014.
In the last 5 years I have been awarded over £9million in research grants. I have a track record of publication in high impact journals.Current projects include the effect of pregnancy planning on maternal and birth outcomes, evaluation of preconception care, and health services research to improve provision of contraceptive care.
My research has informed policy, practice and methodology, at national and international level, including NICE Guidance on prevention of sexually transmitted infections, European policy on Chlamydia screening and the National Chlamydia Screening Programme in England, the UK Government Alcohol Strategy, the Teenage Pregnancy Strategy, Department of Health Recommendations for Sexual Health Services and the CONSORT Statement on trials of non-pharmacological interventions.
